Why Mental Health Matters

Supporting Our Community Wellbeing

At Event Caddie, we recognise that mental health is an important part of overall wellbeing.

Mental health challenges affect many people every year. In England, it is estimated that 1 in 4 people experience a mental health problem annually, meaning it is likely that some members of our community — whether at events, clubs, or online — may be affected.

We believe that participating in sport, hobbies, and social activity can support wellbeing, but these should always complement, not replace, professional support where needed.

Our Approach

We aim to support awareness and encourage open, supportive conversation within our community.

Our goals are to:

  • Help people recognise signs that someone may be struggling
  • Encourage simple, supportive conversations such as “Are you okay?”
  • Signpost trusted professional support services when needed

If you or someone else is in immediate danger or at risk of harm, call 999, go to A&E, or contact your local emergency or crisis service immediately.

Recognising the Signs

Everyone experiences mental health challenges differently, but some common signs may include:

  • Withdrawing from activities or social interaction
  • Low motivation or loss of interest
  • Noticeable mood changes or emotional intensity
  • Feelings of sadness, anxiety, hopelessness, or being overwhelmed
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Changes in sleep, appetite, or self-care routines
  • Physical symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, or nausea
  • Expressing thoughts of self-harm or suicide

It is not always easy to notice these signs, which is why checking in with people can make a real difference.

How You Can Support Someone

If you are concerned about someone, you can help by:

  • Checking in: A simple “How are you doing?” can open conversation
  • Listening without judgement: Being present is often the most important support
  • Encouraging support: Suggest speaking to a professional or trusted service
  • Signposting help: Direct them to appropriate resources when needed

You do not need to be an expert to support someone — listening and caring matters.
